An interactive workshop co-organised by the projects CrossGov, Prep4Blue, EcoDaLLi, BlueMissionAA, BlueMissionBANOS and A-aagora
When: March 6, 2025 – 09h00 to 13h00
Where: Maison Irène et Frédéric Joliot-Curie (MIFJC) – Rue du Trône 100, 1050 Ixelles, Belgique
Why?
The EU Mission Restore our Ocean and Waters has established different mechanisms for facilitating the transfer of (new) knowledge and innovations to public and private decision makers, with Work Packages (WPs) and tasks dedicated to: (i) the understanding of the functioning of innovation ecosystems and Science-Policy-Society interfaces; (ii) the identification of conditions and drivers facilitating knowledge and innovation transfer to private and public dedication makers; or (iii) the setting up of platforms and processes to steer engagement of all actors of the knowledge-value chain facilitating knowledge and innovation transfer. As the Mission Ocean enters into its forth year of implementation, it is time to learn from challenges faced by research and innovation projects funded by Mission Ocean and other funding sources in transferring knowledge and innovations to private and public decision makers at different scales.
What for?
The workshop aims at:
Sharing experiences on the transfer of knowledge and innovation to a wide range of end-users as organized and carried out by (Horizon Europe, Mission Ocean, JPI Ocean…) projects;
Identifying main challenges and bottlenecks faced for transferring knowledge and innovation, as well as inspiring experiences and solutions proposed for addressing these challenges and bottlenecks;
Deriving possible recommendations that can guide future research and innovation projects in designing more effective knowledge and innovation transfer mechanisms and processes.
How?
Combining plenary and interactive group sessions, the workshop agenda will be structured in six main building blocks (see below). Particular attention will be given to a diversity of contexts and situations likely to lead to different challenges and solutions, e.g. in terms of what can be transferred (knowledge and innovations of different types – technological, social & institutional, economic …), how and to whom (different private and public “end-users” at different scales).
For and with whom?
Scientists and experts of (Mission Ocean-funded) research and innovation projects coordinating projects, in charge of knowledge and innovation transfer activities or facilitating interfaces with stakeholders and decision makers – Facilitators of innovation ecosystems and knowledge brokers – Stakeholders and decision makers end-users of (scientific) knowledge and innovations – Representatives of (research) funding organisations
