Stakeholder Engagement Role-Playing Game Guidelines

The role-play game guidelines were developed for the Prep4Blue Atlantic and Arctic Pilot Stakeholder Assembly held in Bordeaux in November 2024, supporting the Mission Restore Our Ocean and Waters. Designed as a model for future stakeholder engagement, the game simulates two scenarios, inspired by the CLIMAREST oyster reef restoration site and the OCEAN CITIZEN project.

The first scenario addresses the challenges faced by a fictional coastal city dealing with declining flat oyster populations, aiming to explore nature-based solutions through a collaborative restoration project.

The second scenario simulates a public participation event to co-develop a management strategy for a Marine Protected Area, involving local communities, scientists, policymakers, and industry.

Both scenarios aim to build a shared vision grounded in empathy and mutual understanding. These guidelines provide instructions and recommendations for each scenario, to effectively implement this role playing game and mobilise stakeholders for the preservation and restoration of our ocean, seas and waters!
